Great celebration of needlework on Saturday, June 14.
The Bryant Park outdoor knitting season kicks off this Saturday, June 14, with Worldwide Knitting in Public Day. This is the fourth year in a row that Bryant Park has hosted this great celebration of needlework. The event will be held from 2:30-4:30pm at the gravel area on the Upper Terrace, just opposite the Bryant Park Grill. Look for our statue of Gertrude Stein wrapped in a Knitty City scarf.
We’ve enlisted several of the New York’s leading knitting organizations to help out. Knitty City, our partner for Bryant Park Knits, will be joined by members of The Big Apple Knitting Guild, the NYC Crochet Guild, and the Harlem Needlearts. These knitting pros offer free lessons to beginners (needles and yarn provided) and will knit, crochet, and exchange ideas and patterns with participants. Representatives from FEGS will also be on hand to create and collect squares for Blankets of Love.
On Tuesday, June 17, the weekly series Bryant Park Knits officially returns for its 10th season. Join experts from Knitty City on the Upper Terrace across from Bryant Park Grill each Tuesday from 1:30-3:00pm through August 26. The classes are free, and Knitty City provides the use of needles and yarn. Call 212-787-5896 to pre-register, or take a chance and just drop by.
